Dispute Between Two Stores Over Shopping Carts Leads To Theft Charge

A dispute between two Nanuet stores over missing shopping carts has led to a theft charge, according to .

After reports from several of its employees, the Nanuet complained to police on Dec. 12 that a number of the store's shopping carts were at the nearby in Nanuet. Police said that when a Pathmark representative went to the other store to retrieve the shopping carts, a Farmers Market representative refused to return the carts — saying the carts had been purchased at an auction.

Police said that after an investigation, Atef Khalil, 44, of Yonkers, from Farmers Market was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor. Khalil was relased pending a Jan. 4, 2012, Clarkstown Town Court hearing in New City.
