Emergency crews respond to Nanuet gas leak

On Monday morning, O&R crews and Nanuet FD responded to a gas leak in Nanuet.

Orange and Rockland Utility crews as well as firefighters rushed to the scene today of a gas leak outside a commercial building in Nanuet.

Nanuet Fire Department officials say that around 7:30 Monday morning a garbage crew picked up a Dumpster next to Weickert Realtors on Route 59. When they put it down they damaged a pipe. Officials say when employees showed up for work they smelled gas. Gas service was quickly turned off.

O&R spokesperson Mike Donovan says turning off the gas immediately is part of a new layer of safety measures following an incident in West Haverstraw in which a house exploded.
