A four-car accident on the New York State Thruway Tuesday night left one person trapped in the wreckage, needing to cut open a car to pull out the victim.
Nanuet Fire Chief A.J. Knapp said three people were taken to Nyack Hospital as a result of the accident at around 10 p.m. on the section of the Thruway that runs under Route 304 in Nanuet.
Knapp said one of the accident victims was trapped by the legs in one of the wrecked cars. However, Knapp said volunteer firefighters were able to cut the car open within a few minutes and get the victim out of the car.
In addition to State Police and Nanuet firefighters, emergency crews called the accident scene included volunteers from the West Nyack Fire Department, Nanuet Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Nyack Community Ambulance Corps and members of Rockland Paramedics.
