UPDATE: Local Firefighters Seek Donated Items For Breezy Point FD

Congers FD will be collecting donated items this week

Update: Wednesday morning:

The Congers Fire Department wants to thank the public for their overwhelming contributions of clothing and that they no long need any more clothes.

"We have about 30-40 boxes of clothing right now," said Congers Second Assistant Chief Phil Leto.

However, they're still looking for toiletries, paper products, work gloves, cleaning products and dry foods/non-perishable foods.

Drop them off at their firehouse at 40 N. Harrison Ave in Congers from Monday – Friday this week between 5 – 9 p.m.

People to People has also stopped receiving clothing donations and are only looking for non-perishable food.

The Nanuet Fire Department is heading down to Queens on Tuesday with a drop off for Breezy Point FD. Other local fire departments are also coming on board to help out.

According to Fire Commissioner Vincent Pacella:

Point Breeze Fire Department has severe damage and lost most of their equipment. The 2 engines they have are operational but on borrowed time as they were pumping sea water to contain the fires. They also lost a Chief's car as everything was under 4 feet of sea water. They are looking for flashlights, portable fire radios, turnout gear, 4x4 vehicles, office equipment, mobile home trailer, and warm clothes as they are still wearing the same clothes from the storm. FEMA & OEM have yet to respond to their needs. Monetary donations can be made to the Red Cross. Please help.

Congers Fire Department is collecting donations and is heading down to Breezy Point on Saturday with West Haverstraw FD. Bring the following items to their firehouse at 40 N. Harrison Ave in Congers from Monday – Friday this week between 5 – 9 p.m.

  • non-perishable food
  • used clothing, pillows, blankets
  • paper products
  • toiletries

"We're going to load up some trucks and head down to Breezy Point in Queens on Saturday morning," said Congers Second Assistant Chief Phil Leto. "We're going with West Haverstraw FD."

The Nanuet Fire Department is collecting donations for the Point Breeze Volunteer Fire Department and the surrounding area. Donations of fire equipment are urgently needed. Any fire department with surplus equipment that is no longer used will also be accepted.

Items such as turnout gear, helmets, boots, gloves, flashlights, portable radios, generators, portable pumps, mobile trailer to be used as an office, office equipment, four wheel drive vehicles, and a fire engine (pumper).

Drop off the above items  at the Nanuet Firehouse on Prospect Street, Nanuet.

The Nanuet Fire Department expects to deliver the donated items to the Point Breeze Volunteer Fire Department starting on Tuesday, November 6. Other trips will be made as necessary.

We are also in need of a box truck to deliver these items. If you can donate the use of this type of vehicle, please call Vincent Pacella at 845-406-0570.

This is just ridiculous. There are two aspects to our water. Supply and demand. United WaterRead More control our supply and have been instructed by the NY Public Service Commission to increase our supply. Our politicians control our demand. They could enact legislation to restrict demand tomorrow: Introduce water saving measures, restrict growth and introduce incentives and policies to conserve, but do they? No, of course not, they would rather showboat and slam UW, who are doing what the State has mandated. If our local politicians are serious on this issue, propose real legislation and water conservation measure, not just baseless rebuke of UW.
