[UPDATE] Man Dies in Fall from Boat on Hudson River

Good Samaritan pulls him from water off Upper Nyack; man taken to Nyack Hospital.

A man who fell from a boat late this morning on the Hudson River just offshore from Upper Nyack has died.

Nyack Fire Chief James Petriello said the man was apparently moving between a boat tied up on the river off Petersen's Boat Yard and a dingy when he fell and was injured around 11:45 a.m.. Petriello said a passerby was able to pull the man out of the river.

Police said the 77-year-old New Jersey resident died at Nyack Hospital.

Petriello said marine units from the Westchester County Police Department and the Rockland County Sheriff's Department assisted and had the man at the dock at Petersen's by the time Nyack volunteer firefighters arrived to assist. The injured man was taken by member of Nyack Community Ambulance Corps to Nyack Hospital for treatment.

Police and firefighters were uncertain of whether the man was injured in the fall or whether he suffered from a medical problem as he was going from one boat to the other. His wife was on board his sailboat at the time, police said.
