Rockland paramedics—who were among the first responders yesterday when a toddler was struck and killed by a pick-up truck in Spring Valley—added their condolences to the community.

"This is the type of call that every first responder dreads, it is the worst type of call for any emergency responder to deal with,” said Ray Florida, Executive Director of Rockland Paramedic Services. “Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to the family for their loss."

The driver, 31, called 911 at about 8:30 a.m. July 11 to report a child struck by a car at the Lottie Gardens apartment complex, NBC4 reported on nbcnewyork.com.

Rockland Paramedic Services and Spring Hill Ambulance responded to Rose Avenue, Florida said.

The mother and father of the child were present when the accident occurred, Florida said. The mother was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital by ambulance for psychological trauma; the father stayed on the scene with the two siblings.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene and the Rockland County Medical Examiner was notified to respond.

The family's children often played in the parking lot of the apartment complex, News 12 reported. See the News 12 video interview with their babysitter here.

Spring Valley police are investigating the accident.
