Police: Man Walking Out with $500 Xbox Pulled Knife on Best Buy Staffer

A store clerk at the Best Buy in the Palisades Mall asked a man walking toward the exit to show the receipt for the Xbox game system he was carrying, police said.

the man pulled a folding knife from his pocket and said, "not today."

The store clerk let him pass—but followed him out of the mall to a waiting car.

Then the associate called the police.

Clarkstown PD broadcast the description of the car. State police pulled over a car matching it shortly afterward on Route 17  in Monroe.

Taken back to Clarkstown, the Middletown 21-year-old was charged with Robbery 1st Petit Larceny (misdemeanor), Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th (misdemeanor), Menacing 2nd (misdemeanor) and Criminal Possession Stolen Property 5th (misdemeanor).

He was arraigned and held on $20,000 bail and is scheduled to return to Clarkstown Justice Court May 19.

Awesome. Quick thinking by the receipt checker by the door. How about the A-Hole driving the getaway car?

When one pulls a weapon on a unarmed citizen , committing a robbery . This person should suffer the maximum jail time . lock this guy up through away key , before he kills someone !

@Curious Cathy. I don't buy much there but when i do the always ask to see the receipt on the way out. They match the receipt with what you have, they don't just see if you have a receipt.. store policy is to check all receipts. It may also be store policy to let the thief go and see if you can get a license plate. Don't know if the clerk would have followed the guy showed a gun though. That is hopefully not store policy. The thief should have done his homework. There was no chance he was walking out of best buy to the parking lot with the xbox-none.
