District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe today announced Riad Dib, 66, of Wesley
Hills pled guilty to the intentional murder of his estranged girlfriend in
January. Dib had been charged with one felony count of Second Degree Murder for
the death of Cecile Garbarino who died after her head and face were beaten with
the heel of a woman’s shoe.
Dib faces a maximum sentence of 18 years to life in state prison when he is sentenced on January 7, 2014. He remains in the Rockland County Jail.
“The defendant has admitted his guilt in the senseless killing of an innocent woman,” Zugibe said. “The helpless victim died violently. His actions have caused great pain and inconsolable loss to the victim’s family. The defendant should be kept behind bars for the rest of his life.”
According to Zugibe, on the evening of January 24th, Dib attacked the 68-year-old Garbarino in the house they once shared. Dib called 911 and when Ramapo police arrived, they found Dib at the home with what appeared to be blood on his clothing.
