I agree that the cops should get out of their cars, and "walk the beat," especially during the early morning hours; however, there would be a lot less people getting in fights, shootings, etc., if the bars were closed earlier! The village needs to petition the SLA for a variance to close the bars earlier. Goodness knows the police will give their support to this. They're tired of it, too!

Actually if you think about it, it is just where I'd want to be when gunshots are fireed, asleep, in my car saying "what was that?"

At least this is and last years fatal throat slashing, did not take place where our loved ones catch their bus to work in nyc everyday. Oh wait minute.... Pick it up OPD, you dont have to be on every corner at all times, but maybe the ones where the repetetive crimes and wannabe "gangsta" b/s always seem to take place. Stray bullets kill innocent people all the time, even the ones who are oh so responsibly snuggled in their cozy beds at 3AM.

I think its safe to say alot of us are getting sick of hearing how bad nyack used to be as a justification for an "acceptable" amount of violent crime in present day. Two patrol cars watching the pretty young girls outside pour house every weekend, and none on the streets where hardworking residents are being harassed, followed home while walking their dogs, and getting rudely awakened by the sounds of massive brawls which sometimes go unchecked for hours. BTW, more gun legislation will only prevent the innocent and responsible citizens with legal firearms from having the means to protect themselves from the criminals with illegal weapons.
