SUV Catches Fire on Palisades Interstate Parkway; Driver Unharmed

The driver apparently did not know his SUV was on fire.

The driver of a black Isuzu Rodeo apparently didn't realize his SUV was on fire as he was driving northbound on the Palisades Interstate Parkway on Saturday afternoon.

"Motorists were telling him his car was on fire and he pulled over," said Nanuet Fire Chief AJ Knapp.

The engine compartment fire was called in at about 3 p.m. and two units from the Nanuet Fire Department responded to the scene near Exit 10.

"It was burning when we got there but we knocked it down quick," said Knapp. The fire was extinguished in approximately 15 minutes.

The driver was the only person in the SUV and he was able to exit the vehicle without injury, said Knapp.

The northbound lane was briefly closed, according to New York State Police, but was reopened by 3:45 p.m.

This is just ridiculous. There are two aspects to our water. Supply and demand. United WaterRead More control our supply and have been instructed by the NY Public Service Commission to increase our supply. Our politicians control our demand. They could enact legislation to restrict demand tomorrow: Introduce water saving measures, restrict growth and introduce incentives and policies to conserve, but do they? No, of course not, they would rather showboat and slam UW, who are doing what the State has mandated. If our local politicians are serious on this issue, propose real legislation and water conservation measure, not just baseless rebuke of UW.
