Wayne Werner, a volunteer firefighter who is a captain in the Tappan Fire Department, has been honored by Rockland fire chiefs for his efforts to save the life of a fellow volunteer.

At the Rockland County Fire Chief's Association monthly meeting at the Congers Fire Department, Werner was presented a service award for performing CPR on a fellow firefighter who went into cardiac arrest during a company drill.

Werner’s skills were credited with saving his fellow firefighter’s life. CPR training is among the wide set of emergency skills Rockland County volunteer firefighters learn as part of their training.

The Tappan Fire Department, like all of Rockland County's fire departments, is staff 100 percent by volunteers.
