Man Killed by Tree Identified as Jeffery Chanin of Pearl River

Orangetown Police identfied the man killed when a tree fell on a residence in Pearl River Monday Night as Jeffery Chanin of Pearl River.

Jeffery Chanin, 51, of Pearl River was killed when a residence on Robin Street in Pearl River was struck by a tree during Hurricane Sandy Monday night.

According to Orangetown Police, the tree fell and crashed through the living room of the house, trapping four members of the family. Chanin was pinned by the tree and suffered serious head and leg injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

His two daughters and their mother were taken to Nyack Hospital for treatment.

The Pearl River Fire Department and Orangetown Highway Department aided Orangetown Police in extricating the victims, who were treated by Rockland Paramedics with assistance by the Pearl River and South Orangetown Ambulance Corps.

The incident occurred on Robin Street at about 6 p.m. Monday, according to Rockland Paramedic Services.
