Clarkstown Board Authorizes Survey For Traphagen Property And Highway Equipment Bond

Survey cost capped at $9,050.

The Clarkstown Town Board authorized the Department of Environmental Control’s director to hire a New City land surveyor to survey and prepare a subdivision map of the in West Nyack. The town purchased the nine-acre property along Germonds Road last year for $900,000. The property is adjacent to Germonds Park.

The survey and subdivision map of the 9.23-acre parcel will be prepared by Atzl, Scatassa and Zigler. The property includes a house and a historic building, which could be one of the oldest structures in the county. When the town board was considering the purchase, the possibility of a subdivision was discussed.

At Tuesday night’s board meeting, Attorney Amy Mele said the property with the house would be subdivided and sold.  The town would keep and preserve the remaining seven acres as open space.

, owner of the property, had given the town the right of first refusal to purchase the land after his death. He passed away in December 2010 and the town exercised its right to purchase the land earlier in 2011.

The board also authorized a $300,000 bond for the purchase ofequipment. It would cover part of the cost of three new multi purpose plow trucks for the town highway department.

When the town board was considering the purchase, the possibility of a subdivision was discussed. Discussed with who. a link would be nice all I see is this--will development and or subdivision be limited to this. meaning no new housing just fixing up what is there http://newcity.patch.com/articles/clarkstown-acquisition-of-traphagen-property-expected-in-july "Mele said the proposal for the subdivision could include a restrictive covenant that the owner would have to restore and maintain the historic building and could not develop the property but would have to keep it as open space. A stream runs through the acreage and there are some stone walls behind the house otherwise the property appears undeveloped. WHAT ABOUT THE RESTRICTIVE COVENANT This property is an ideal location to give some sorely needed relief to an already over crowded section of clarkstown that has no other open space options.
