County Highway Dept: Road Work Update

Here's a look at which roads will be worked on and what to detour around

Around noon time on Tuesday, the Rockland County Highway Department finished up the surfacing work on Convent Road in Nanuet. They moved over to Kings Highway in Congers and will be there for about two days.

"We finished up on Convent ... and it's all done and all reopened," said

"We're moving over to Kings Highway and hopefully we'll get it done today and if not we'll finish up tomorrow," said Skip Vezzetti, Superintendent of Highways. "It's the county section (of Kings Highway) from Lake Road in Congers all the way down ... right before you get into Valley Cottage" near O'sullivan's Plumbing Heating Alterations—471 Kings Hwy, Valley Cottage.

"What we're really doing right now is surface treatment, micro-peeling ... we hope to have this all completed within the next week so we're moving right along," he said. "But the paving won't be done until probably September."

Later on this year ...

  • "In Nanuet we're going to be doing Middletown Road from (the closed) Huffman Koos ( to Ludvigh Road and Middletown Road from Ludvigh Road to Smith Road. We'll also be doing Little Tor Road from West Clarkstown Road to Milich Lane."
  • "For New City, we'll doing Congers Road from Route 304 to Brewery Road. On New Hempstead Road, we've got the electric has been run for the decorative street lighting. We're going to be installing the bases and they're staring to put the sidewalks in now."
  • For Pearl River, we'll be doing Veterans Memorial Drive from Old Middletown Road to Blue Hill Road South. We're also doing Townline Road, from Park Road to Sickletown Road. These are going to happen later this year."

This is just ridiculous. There are two aspects to our water. Supply and demand. United WaterRead More control our supply and have been instructed by the NY Public Service Commission to increase our supply. Our politicians control our demand. They could enact legislation to restrict demand tomorrow: Introduce water saving measures, restrict growth and introduce incentives and policies to conserve, but do they? No, of course not, they would rather showboat and slam UW, who are doing what the State has mandated. If our local politicians are serious on this issue, propose real legislation and water conservation measure, not just baseless rebuke of UW.
