Drain Work Will Close Union Road for 2-3 Weeks

This is part of the project to stop recurrent flooding in the neighborhood.

Union Road will be closed starting May 5 at the intersection of Stonehouse Drive and King Terrace during work at Pascack Brook.

A temporary traffic detour route has been established along Route 45 from Eckerson Road to Maple Avenue.  Detour signs will be in place directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic around the work area.

Rockland County Executive Ed Day and Drainage Agency Chairman Charles H. Vezzetti announced that the road will remain closed for two to three weeks.

"We know this closure will be a major inconvenience for people living in the area," said Day in a press release. "We will do everything possible to make certain drivers and pedestrians know the best routes to maneuver around this temporary detour."

The $10 million Pascack Brook Bypass Culvert project is designed to relieve chronic flooding that has affected local residents.

This closure is required to install relocated and upgraded sanitary sewer facilities.  Another road closure will happen later this year while crews install the underground culvert designed to contain floodwaters from the brook.

The improvements are scheduled to be completed in 2015.

The work is being administered by the Rockland County Drainage Agency in cooperation with the Village of Spring Valley and Rockland County Sewer District No. 1.  For additional information, contact the Rockland County Drainage Agency at (845) 638-5081.
