Flood-Prone Areas in Stony Point Being Evacuated

Flood-prone areas include BaMar, Grassy Point, and Beach Rd.

Editor's Note: The following is a Rockland County Alert:

Town of Stony Point Supervisor Geoff Finn has declared a local state of emergency in Stony Point effective 8 p.m tonight.

Extreme high tides are expected and combined with the high winds, flooding, closed roads and power outages are probable.

Supervisor Finn has ordered the mandatory evacuation by 8 p.m. tonight of the entire Ba Mar Mobile home community, Beach Road and all businesses and homes in Grassy Point east of the Penny Bridge including River Rd.

All homes normally affected by flooding should consider evacuating to higher ground. Residents of the affected areas are advised to be out of their residence as soon as possible today and no later than 8 p.m. tonight and are urged to seek shelter with family or friends out of the affected area.

Residents should move all vehicles to higher ground and can park in the commuter parking lot or the old Stop & Shop parking lot on 9W until the storm passes. Residents who cannot find alternative shelter can respond to the new Stony Point Ambulance building 47 S. Liberty Dr, Route 9W, Stony Point. A Temporary shelter will be set up at the ambulance building and will open at 8 p.m.

Remember to take only essentials and medications with you.

This is just ridiculous. There are two aspects to our water. Supply and demand. United WaterRead More control our supply and have been instructed by the NY Public Service Commission to increase our supply. Our politicians control our demand. They could enact legislation to restrict demand tomorrow: Introduce water saving measures, restrict growth and introduce incentives and policies to conserve, but do they? No, of course not, they would rather showboat and slam UW, who are doing what the State has mandated. If our local politicians are serious on this issue, propose real legislation and water conservation measure, not just baseless rebuke of UW.

He originally attempted to text the announcement to a bunch of youths, but he mistakenly sent it toRead More senior citizens.
