Flu Clinic Draws 50 For Free Vaccine

Senator David Carlucci hosted the free flu clinic in conjunction with Nyack Hospital.


In the midst of one of the most widespread flu seasons seen in nearly a decade, Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) Wednesday held a free flu shot clinic for more than 50 Rockland County residents who have not gotten vaccinated. He partnered with Nyack Hospital for the clinic held at his district office in Nanuet. The hospital  who provided on-site nursing staff and pharmacists to administer the vaccine that guards against influenza. 

“Drawing residents from Stony Point to Sloatsburg, our flu shot clinic was an overwhelming success that will ultimately will protect residents and keep them healthy in the months ahead,” said Carlucci.  “I would like to thank Nyack Hospital for their efforts and for working together for the benefit of the entire community.”

More than 50 residents attended the three hour clinic that ran from the late afternoon through the early evening.

Cases of the flu are still widespread through Rockland. The County Health Department's Director of Epidemiology and Public Health Plannning Oscar Alleyne urged residents to get the vaccine. 

"As it stands at this time, the flu is widespread," he said. "We haven't seen a reduction of numbers per se."

The Health Department is offering flu vaccines on Friday, Feb. 1 from 1 to 3 p.m. County residents can make an appointment to get a flu shot at the Rockland County Department of Health, Building A Exhibition Hall, located at 50 Sanatorium Road in Pomona

To make an appointment for a vaccination, call (845) 364-2519, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Health Department is offering the flu vaccine free of charge to adults 60 years and older. Patients with Medicare and Medicaid must bring their cards. Those from nine through 59 years of age can receive the vaccine for a $25 fee. Bring proof of Rockland County residency such as a driver's license. Individuals can also check with their doctor, or visit  www.flu.gov to find flu vaccine clinics in the area.
