Jaffee Defeats Gravagna for State Assembly

68-year-old incumbent won over Gravagna, 33, for District 97

Ellen Jaffee was victorious Tuesday over Joseph Gravagna for the state Senate Assembly seat for District 97.

District 97 includes Orangetown, Chestnut Ridge, Spring Valley, New Square, Airmont, Hillburn and portions of Montebello and Suffern. Jaffee's current 95th district will become the 97th district because of changes to the district map.

Both Gravagna, 33, and Jaffee, 68, are Suffern resident. Gravagna was running on three party lines: Republican, Conservative, Independence

Results from elections officials in Rockland show Jaffee winning by a difference of 12,915 votes, 27,755 to 14,840.  In Rockland County, 115,794 voters participated in Tuesday's elections. 100 percent of Rockland's election districts are in.

As Rockland County Republicans watched election updates throughout the night at Casa Mia in Blauvelt, Rockland County Democratic Committee took over Town & Country in Congers.

When asked for a comment, Gravagna declined. Vincent Reda, Rockland Republican chair, said it was a disappointing night for republicans.

This is just ridiculous. There are two aspects to our water. Supply and demand. United WaterRead More control our supply and have been instructed by the NY Public Service Commission to increase our supply. Our politicians control our demand. They could enact legislation to restrict demand tomorrow: Introduce water saving measures, restrict growth and introduce incentives and policies to conserve, but do they? No, of course not, they would rather showboat and slam UW, who are doing what the State has mandated. If our local politicians are serious on this issue, propose real legislation and water conservation measure, not just baseless rebuke of UW.
