Letter to the Editor: Carlucci Helpful During Sandy

This letter to the editor is by David Newman of Nyack

In the days following the hurricane, local residents huddled in front of the darkened Nyack village hall, seeking help and direction from public officials.

Senator David Carlucci stepped forward with more than helpful advice, offering his offices to all those in need of a warm place to recharge computers and phones. When my wife and I accepted his gracious invitation we learned first hand what kind of operation Senator Carlucci runs—a staff of warm hearted, hard working people who went out of their way to aid and comfort us, one even to the point of displacing herself from her own workstation.

For this, they have earned my thanks.

This is just ridiculous. There are two aspects to our water. Supply and demand. United WaterRead More control our supply and have been instructed by the NY Public Service Commission to increase our supply. Our politicians control our demand. They could enact legislation to restrict demand tomorrow: Introduce water saving measures, restrict growth and introduce incentives and policies to conserve, but do they? No, of course not, they would rather showboat and slam UW, who are doing what the State has mandated. If our local politicians are serious on this issue, propose real legislation and water conservation measure, not just baseless rebuke of UW.
