Orangetown Supervisor Announces Pearl River Office Hours

Orangetown Supervisor Andy Stewart and Town Clerk Charlotte Madigan will hold office hours Wednesday, July 18 at the Pearl River Public Library.

Orangetown Supervisor Andy Stewart announced that he and Town Clerk Charlotte Madigan will hold office hours at Pearl River Public Library Wednesday July 18.

There will be two sessions, one at 3 p.m. and one at 5 p.m.

"This event is part of an ongoing effort to make Orangetown as user- and business-friendly as possible," Stewart said. "Charlotte and I welcome any and all suggestions for ways the Town government can better serve the people."

Stewart will be available to discuss any issues related to the town and will exhibit updated information regarding the redevelopment of the Rockland Psychiatric Center and the Point at Lake Tappan among other local land use matters.

Madigan will address questions to licenses and permits handled by her office.

Kudos once again to Stewart for being available to the community. Perhaps he will walk down S. Main St over E Central, down toward the post office and up Franklin. I wonder how many commercial properties he will see that have exterior paint chipping, makeshift plywood walls, and general shabbiness. He will also see some business owners who clearly take pride in how they present their business. If he wants to be "business friendly" I think he needs to encourage or push the owners of the eyesores to fix things up.

Although it may not seem "business freindy" to push the owners of the eyesores to invest in fixing things up, it is business friendly since it should help those that have already invested time and money in presenting good storefronts. We need to support the business owers that are truly investing in our community.

Harvey, well said. The Munno's building, Haddeler's building, the corner of Main and Central, the empty dry cleaners on Main and Washington are an absolute disgrace. Last year when school was open I was behind a bus picking up kids for school. The scene was like something from the circus with thr clowns getting out of the Volkswagon. Dozens of kids game running out of these dumps to get on the bus. They just kept coming. At the door was there once again pregnant mothers waving goodbye to them as the hardworking homeowners/taxpayers were getting on the train to the city. Getting the picture here?? How many people can live in these buildings. One was just sent away to prison on a sexual assault charge. If you are driving down Franklin, you can see the plywood blocking a window from the inside on one of the windows in the Munno's building. Looks like something is not up to code in there. Could be a death trap if ever a fire broke out.
