Rockland County Executive In Albany On Local Government Issues

The Board of Directors of the state Association of Counties met Thursday to set their agenda for the 2013 state legislative session

As a member of the Board of Directors of the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef joined other county leaders in Albany to discuss local government priorities  and prepare for the 2013 State Legislative session. During the Thursday meeting they reviewed priorities and set addressed by Vanderhoef.

“State-mandated increases have made it impossible for a number of counties to stay under the 2 percent tax cap,” said Vanderhoef.“Rockland County, for example, faces $30 million in increased mandated costs just this year, and therefore it’s vital the State Legislature take into consideration the recommendations of the Roadmap to Mandate Relief.”

NYSAC’s Roadmap report was designed to lower the cost of government at the State and local government levels.

NYSAC’s board also plans to discuss the impact of Hurricane Sandy on the
economy and address the potential Federal budget sequestration. County
leaders are offering to team up with state leaders to enact public policy reforms.

Today, the New York State County Executives Association (a NYSAC affiliate) will meet to elect its 2013 officers, discuss county priorities for next year, and receive updates on Albany's current political landscape.

“The December meetings are important to county leaders as we lay out clear priorities for the coming year and restate local concerns,” said NYSAC Executive Director Stephen Acquario.
