Rockland Democrats Choose Zebrowski-Stavisky as New Leader

Sister of Assemblyman Kenneth Zebrowski, D-New City, succeeds longtime Democratic chairman Vincent Monte.

Rockland Democrats gathered at Clarkstown Town Hall Thursday evening to elected Kristen Zebrowski-Stavisky their new chairwoman.

Stavisky, 40, is the sister of Assemblyman Kenneth Zebrowski, D-New City. She replaces former chairman Vince Monte, 68, who served a total of 27 years since 1980.

"I never wanted to be anything but county chair," Monte said, addressing a packed courtroom prior to the election. He also reflected on his relationships with various political players over the years, like Clarkstown Town Supervisor Alex Gromack, D-Congers, Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee, D-Suffern, and the town's current District Attorney Thomas Zugibe.

"I'm humbled and honored," Stavisky said, quickly adopting an ardent tone. "The Democrats of Rockland are ready, and our mission is to win elections. We will come together to beat the Republicans.

"Please share your ideas with how to best energize the Democrat base in Rockland, and persuade [unaffiliated voters] our party is the best," she said.

More than 100 Rockland Democrats from across the county turned out to take part in the selection. Among them was state Sen. David Carlucci, D-New City, who last November and was
