Nanuet Chamber in Formation!

New Nanuet Chamber is on its way to becoming a reality! Join us and get involved!

A big thank you to all the folks who turned out last night at the Nanuet Library to discuss the possibility of starting a new Nanuet Chamber of Commerce. There were approximately 50 people in attendance and many presented their ideas and thoughts about how the Chamber should work and what it should focus on.

The goal of the organization is not to duplicate efforts already underway by the Nanuet Civic Association, the Nanuet Rotary or Nanuet Lions but rather to see what else we can do to help energize and support Nanuet businesses and improve the environment for the entire Nanuet Community.

Committees are now in formation for

  1. Structure: bylaws, IRS paperwork, dues, etc.
  2. Member benefits; what will members (businesses and residents) receive for becoming a member
  3. Nominating committee: to identify potential board members 4) Marketing/branding committee: create a logo/identity for the group, design a website, develop advertising plan for members to promote their businesses on the site etc.

If you are interested in working on any of these committees or helping in any other way as we move forward, please send and email to me (risa@gmgpr.com) or to Kim Tran at Kim@Patch. All positions are open at this time. You can also sign up to receive emails and see the calendar of events by clicking on this link to join our WIGGIO group: http://wiggio.com/group_open_join.php?groupid=1264329&password=Nanuet123&ref=1204169

Please spread the word about the new Chamber. It will only be effective if everyone jumps in to get involved with an issue they care about. The next meeting is May 10 at the Nanuet Library at 7 p.m.

Thank you again to Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack, Economic Development Specialist for Clarkstown Catherine Nowicki (and my Nanuet High School English teacher), Councilmen George Hoehmann and Frank Borelli, Clarkstown Supervisor Wayne Ballard and County Legislator Chris Carey for their support in forming the Chamber, it is very much appreciated.

This is just ridiculous. There are two aspects to our water. Supply and demand. United WaterRead More control our supply and have been instructed by the NY Public Service Commission to increase our supply. Our politicians control our demand. They could enact legislation to restrict demand tomorrow: Introduce water saving measures, restrict growth and introduce incentives and policies to conserve, but do they? No, of course not, they would rather showboat and slam UW, who are doing what the State has mandated. If our local politicians are serious on this issue, propose real legislation and water conservation measure, not just baseless rebuke of UW.
