Albertus Magnus Debuts New Chem Lab

The newly renovated Chemistry Lab was shown to the Falcon Parents' Club and other community members that contributed to the new lab.

Albertus Magnus High School finished making over their Chemistry lab over the summer thanks to funds from the Falcon Parents' Club and AMHS Credit Facilities. This lab is the first of three labs the school plans to redo.

The three classrooms in this "Lab Rehab" campaign are:

  • Chemistry Laboratory
  • Biology Laboratory
  • Physics Laboratory

The Falcon Parents' Club and other community members that helped with the process were invited last night to see a debut of the new facility. The old lab hasn't changed since 1960 when AMHS first opened.

Lynda Spadaro and Joanne Sullivan are two members of the Falcon Parents' Club.

"I love the colors. It's absolutely amazing," Spadaro said. "It's nice to see everybody's hard work pay off. It's better than we imagined."

The lab has new workstations that raise and lower depending on the specific class project. Each station seats 4-6 students and there is a new fume hood in place.

"I'm so enthused for the students and the school," Sullivan said. "You do a lot of fundraising and to see the final product is exciting."

The fundraising and hard work they mentioned are the two spring dinner and auction events from the past two school years. The club raised $123,000 of the $245,000 needed for the Chemistry lab's makeover thanks to the two annual benefit events. The one last March sold out and the they're hoping for the same success this upcoming March because there are still two more labs that need a facelift.

To pay for the other two, there will be special events and a total of $400,000 is needed. Although the club will still raise money from its spring event, extra help from anyone is greatly appreciated. Pledges and gifts can be made as an online donation with Visa, MasterCard or Discover.

Those doing online donations can request their employers make a matching gift. Also, contributions can be put on a pledge cycle of 2-4 years allowing a patron Naming Options for their family.

To donate online, go to the website of AMHS and the link is on the main page. For more information, contact Marty Moran in the Alumni Office at 845-623-8842, ext.  229 or mmoran@albertusmagnus.net.
