Some Rockland School Districts Resume Classes On Monday, Nov. 5

Status of other districts uncertain in the wake of Hurricane Sandy

 

The following information has been provided by some of the school districts and from the Rockland County Executive’s office. Please share this information with family, friends and neighbors who may not have received it. Information about other schools, pre-school and child care programs can be added in the comments section.

Clarkstown School District closed Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 5 and 6. All parent-teacher conferences originally scheduled for Monday have been cancelled.

Nanuet School District closed Monday, Nov. 5 for all students. However, teachers and staff need to come in on Monday for a Superintendent’s Conference Day. Schools may be opening on Tuesday - an official announcement will be made. All parent-teacher conferences originally scheduled for Monday have been cancelled.

Pearl River School District opens Monday, Nov. 5. On Tuesday, which was supposed to be a Superintendent’s Conference Day, is now a regular school day.

Nyack School District is closed Monday, Nov. 5 for all students. All staff will report to school tomorrow for Superintendent's Conference Day originally scheduled for Tuesday. School will be open for students on Tuesday if their situation improves. They will contact parents with this decision on Monday, Nov. 5

South Orangetown School District opens Monday, Nov. 5 on a two-hour delay.

East Ramapo School District will be closed on Monday, Nov. 5.

North Rockland School District opens Monday, Nov. 5.

Ramapo Central School District opens Monday, Nov. 5 on a two-hour delay.

Rockland BOCES 

  • Hilltop School opens Monday, Nov. 5 on a two-hour delay. 
  • Kaplan/KCDC, Riverview, CBI Tech and CTE schools closed on Monday, Nov. 5
  • All BOCES staff should report on a one-hour delay on Monday, Nov. 5.

Albertus Magnus High School in Bardonia will be closed Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 5 and 6.

St. Augustine School in New City closed Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 5 and 6.

ASHAR in New City openMonday and Tuesday, Nov. 5 and 6 but NO bus transportation.  

Rockland Community College opens Monday, Nov. 5.

St. Thomas Aquinas College opens Monday, Nov. 5.

The last day of schools in the county's public school districts was Friday, Oct 26.

The devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy will be felt in Rockland for many weeks and months to come. As the umbrella organization for charitable giving in the County, the Rockland Community Foundation is responding to the needs of our residents by currently accepting applications for financial assistance to those most severely impacted. The Foundation is currently taking grant applications from county based non-profit organizations and individuals for the following funds: Community Crisis Relief Fund - Individuals and non-profit organizations Active Cares Fund - Non-profit organizations only Boulders Fund - Non-profit organizations only North Rockland Emergency Fund - Individuals and non-profit organizations Applications will be reviewed weekly, and grants made as funds are available, until further notice.
