High Rockland Read-In Numbers for Nanuet Elementaries

Pearl River Elks also gave each 3rd grader at Highview a dictionary

 

Hosted by BOCES, is when schools set aside a day dedicated to literacy and spend the whole day reading.

George W. Miller School read a total of 116,615 minutes on Feb. 17 when the school celebrated Rockland Read-In, said Principal Betsy Smith. Students got to wear to school for the day.

“There was a whole lot of reading. We did very well and I’m very proud of that,” said Smith.

“For Rockland Read In, we did quite well,” said Highview Elementary Principal Barbara Auriemma. “This year 81,865 minutes.”

Also, the Pearl River Elks gave every third grader a dictionary this year.

“That was very nice and we’re very appreciative,” said Auriemma. “It’s a program they run nationwide. Our teachers are encouraging students to take them home but bring them back so it really becomes a tool. They’re dictionaries that are more age appropriate for the students and the teachers are just as excited as the students.”
