Highview Elementary To Get 500+ Laptops

Each classroom will have 24 laptops come fall 2012

This week is the beginning of a special delivery for Highview Elementary.

"There will be 543 laptops delivered this summer," said Barbara Auriemma, Highview Principal. "Every classroom, every homeroom, will have its own set of 24 laptops. We're very excited."

The laptops will get set up in each classroom before students return in the fall. The entire building is already set up with wireless internet.

"Even our special area teachers, our remedial staff, will have access to laptops," said Auriemma. "There will be a lot of staff development. We're excited about the new software coming to the building. Some of it granted through gifts and some of it supplied through the district, so we're looking forward to our new technology."

Miller Elementary Principal Betsy Smith added at the last Elementary PTA meeting on Wednesday that Miller will become wireless "not this upcoming year, but the following year," referring to 2013-14.

Regarding these computers 500+ Now that we have done a public service announcement, that unfortunately also announces to the criminal element that the school is now ripe for the plucking of its computer assests, have there been any thoughts to having Device management or Theft recovery tracking software that is embedded in most computers, actually activated? My tax dollars are at stake here. Look up the site where you will get the most value for your money- www.absolute.com Theft tracking and asset management. I work for Absolute Sftware and we see thefts from schools all the time. If the school has our persistant software they get many of them back. If not kiss them goodbye.

I think the school's security does a good job and most schools today have laptops and other valuable technologies. They need things like this to adapt to this generation's needs.
