Highview Elementary To Get 500+ Laptops

Each classroom will have 24 laptops come fall 2012

This week is the beginning of a special delivery for Highview Elementary.

"There will be 543 laptops delivered this summer," said Barbara Auriemma, Highview Principal. "Every classroom, every homeroom, will have its own set of 24 laptops. We're very excited."

The laptops will get set up in each classroom before students return in the fall. The entire building is already set up with wireless internet.

"Even our special area teachers, our remedial staff, will have access to laptops," said Auriemma. "There will be a lot of staff development. We're excited about the new software coming to the building. Some of it granted through gifts and some of it supplied through the district, so we're looking forward to our new technology."

Miller Elementary Principal Betsy Smith added at the last Elementary PTA meeting on Wednesday that Miller will become wireless "not this upcoming year, but the following year," referring to 2013-14.

This is just ridiculous. There are two aspects to our water. Supply and demand. United WaterRead More control our supply and have been instructed by the NY Public Service Commission to increase our supply. Our politicians control our demand. They could enact legislation to restrict demand tomorrow: Introduce water saving measures, restrict growth and introduce incentives and policies to conserve, but do they? No, of course not, they would rather showboat and slam UW, who are doing what the State has mandated. If our local politicians are serious on this issue, propose real legislation and water conservation measure, not just baseless rebuke of UW.
