Legislators Organize Rockland Common Core Forum

Four state legislators will hold a forum for parents and educators to discuss the implementation of the Common Core learning standards 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6 in the student union multipurpose room at Rockland Community College

Senator David Carlucci, Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski, Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee and Assemblyman James Skoufis organized the session, where they will hear suggestions from educators and parents regarding the Common Core, which they will then pass on to Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Education Department.

"I have been meeting with parents, teachers and administrators over the past several months and pushing for the State to respond to their common core concerns," Zebrowski said. "This forum is a great opportunity for residents to collaborate with legislators and develop a clear agenda to present to the State Education Department and the Governor."

New York State Education Commissioner Dr. John B. King, Jr. joined members of the Board of Regents and state legislators in holding a series of forums regarding educational reform in New York from October through December of last year, but none were in Rockland County and only one was in Westchester.
