Nanuet Girl Scouts Dance The Night Away

About 250 attended the annual 'Me and My Guy Dance'

"Daddy's Little Girl." That phrase is simple and well-known, especially last Friday night when about 250 girls and their dads came out to dance the night away at the annual "Me and My Guy" dance thrown by Girl Scout Troop 40203.

"This is our third year doing the dance and we wanted to keep it fresh so the girls  came up with the academy awards theme," said Troop Leader Sharon Martini.

The auditorium was packed with girls from Kindergarten through Fifth grade dancing with their dads and with each other. The DJ was spinning tunes that had all the girls on the dance floor.  The piercing screams vibrated as the DJ played Justin Bieber and Katy Perry.

"My favorite part of the dance is the music," said Morgan Adams.

Besides great music and dancing, there was a professional photographer on hand to take pictures of the girls and their dads with an academy awards theme background.  And for the hungry, there were chips, donuts, and drinks.

The girls from Troop 40203, who are in sixth grade, put the dance together along with their moms.

"As the girls in the troop get older we like to give them more responsibilities, relying less on the moms to help out,"  said Cathy O'Sullivan who was working the snack table with her daughter Mary Cate.

The sixth grade girls took full charge of the dance by calling the DJ, getting the certificate of liability for the hall, organizing the snacks, decorating and setting up.  During the course of the night the girls stood in front of the younger girls sharing their dance skills to such songs as the Macarena.

"My favorite part of the night is the dancing," said Valerie Portelle.

It was a great night for the younger girls to get dressed up, dance and have fun with each other. It also was a great opportunity for the dads to meet each other and enjoy this time with their daughters.

As for the sixth graders it was a great lesson on how much work is required to run a dance smoothly.  Organization is the key and with Sharon Martini at the helm, the night was a huge success.
