At the dinner, Nanuet School Board Vice President Ron Hansen received the 2012 EDDY Award. This prestigious award from RCSBA was presented to Hansen on June 13 at the Seaport in Nyack.

"The EDDY award is an award given by the Rockland County School Board to one school board member a year who has outstanding leadership qualities and has done a lot for the county and for his own school district," said Byrne. Ron was selected by the EDDY committee this year. It was a surprise to him."

He has represented the BOCES Board since 2007 and served as a trustee in Nanuet for a total of 16 years. He is beginning his second year as president of the BOCES board, according to Rockland BOCES.

"Ron has gotten 150 points of leadership opportunities for the New York State School Board Association," said Byrne. "I think it’s always good to have personal development.

Byrne and Rockland BOCES District Superintendent Dr. Mary Jean Marsico thanked Hansen for his dedication as an advocate for quality education for all of Rockland children.

"The Rockland County School Board Presidents award went to (Nanuet School Board Member) Sarah Chauncey. She also did not know about the award," said Byrne. "She’s the behind the scenes person. When you need a video, when you need technology, she's there for you and she never gets any recognition for it, so it was great that she got the recognition."

Phil Sions, assistant superintendent for business, was also in the spotlight.

"It was a really nice night and we also recognized all the business officials in the county so Phil got recognition too," said Byrne. "So it was really a Nanuet night. I’m proud to be with these guys. It’s so great when people get recognized for what they do."
