Nanuet schools back in Session

The Nanuet schools started yesterday smoothly.

The school calendar fell on an unusual day this year and Nanuet schools opened for just one day this week, Wednesday. Although it was just one day out of the week, all schools started with no problems other than a few busses pulling into school a few minutes late.

There was a small drizzle, but all principals and teachers directed student traffic with smiles and hustled around to get the year started off right.

The high-schoolers came in droves either being dropped off or driving their own cars. One freshman said the hardest thing on the first day would be "getting around to all the classes."

At Barr Middle School, one boy was dropped off and walked into school rubbing his eyes. When asked if he was excited or still sleepy, he replied, "still sleepy," with a smile.

There were several teaching assistants at the schools helping students find their way. Some even rode the busses before and after school to help the elementary kids learn how to safely ride the bus and to help ease mothers' minds.

Linette Caneparo, a teaching assistant at Highview Elementary, helped kids being dropped off by parents across the bus lane and into the school.

She said she's very excited about school starting up and for all the children, new and old.
