Nanuet Schools: New Nurse, Retirement Plan Change

The board also amended a CLASS agreement and made other personnel decisions

 

At the Nanuet Board of Education meeting this week, several items were on the agenda. Nanuet Patch detailed the board’s approval of the library’s budget and the school’s budget newsletter in .

The board also approved a few new personnel, changes to its retirement plan and other items.

Personnel

Maura Hanigan is the new registered nurse at Miller Elementary. She’s replacing Nancy Cusack. Her position, which starts at an annual salary of $42,337, is effective as of Sept. 1. 

Orpa Martinez was appointed as the new substitute courier as of May 2. She has been employed by the District as a Food Service Helper since 2008.

As of April 16, Mary Moran resigned from her position as the Substitute Courier and Sean Munk resigned from his position as Cook at the Nanuet High School 

Retirement Plan

The board also approved a change to the Nanuet UFSD 403(b) Retirement Plan. The change will get the district into compliance with the Heroes Earnings Assistance and Relief Act of 2009 (HEART) and the Worker, Retiree and Employer Recovery Act of 2008 (WRERA).

“There are certain waivers that are made for veterans in terms of distribution, deadlines and certain referrals that they can make,” said Phil Sions, assistant superintendent for business.

WHEREAS, the Nanuet UFSD (“Employer”) maintains the Nanuet UFSD 403(b) Retirement Plan Document (“Plan”); and

WHEREAS, the Plan was duly adopted on the 9th day of  December, 2008 by the Employer; and

WHEREAS, the Employer desires to conform the Plan to the requirements of the Heroes Earnings Assistance and Relief Act of 2009 (“HEART”) and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that sections 1.16 Includible Compensation, 1.24 Severance from Employment, 4.1 Loans, and 5.3 Minimum Distributions of the Plan are hereby amended to read as shown on the attached.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Plan shall include the following new sections 5.7 Qualified Military Service Distributions and 9.12 Qualified Military Service Benefits as shown on the attached.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this amendment is effective as required under HEART and WRERA.

CLASS Agreement

The board passed a resolution to amend the CLASS (Cooperative Liquid Asset Securities System) Cooperation Agreement.

The amendment says that the municipal cooperation agreement will be with the Village of Potsdam because Putnam/Northern Westchester—the lead participant under the CLASS agreement—bowed out and now the Village of Potsdam is the lead participant, according to the village’s website.
