Nanuet Senior Receives Water Companies Scholarship

Nanuet Senior High School senior Seamus "Shea" Lombardo recently received a scholarship from the National Association of Water Companies (NAWC)-NY Chapter. Michael Pointing, vice president and general manager of United Water New York and NAWC-NY Chapter board member presented the $2,500 award. Lombardo intends to study bioengineering at SUNY Binghamton in the fall.

NAWC scholarships assist eligible seniors who are attending a New York college and pursuing a water industry-related degree in a field such as natural resource management, environmental sciences, biology, chemistry or engineering.

"The water industry has become increasingly complex," said Pointing. "It is essential that we provide upcoming leaders with the education to manage and sustain the nation's water supplies.”

Lombardo is a member of the National Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society and Mathematics Honor Society and will receive a NY State Advanced Regents Diploma "With Honor" at graduation on Sunday. He is an artist, musician, member of the tennis team and volunteer at Westchester Medical Center.

Lombard said he wants a career in science because of "the amazing benefits it can bring my planet and the people around me."

United Water New York supplies drinking water to about 295,00 people in Rockland and parts of Orange counties.
