Nanuet Students Back at School; Few First-Day Glitches

There were only a few glitches on the first day back

There's a constant drizzle of rain outside as umbrellas line up waiting for the bus. School started today for the Nanuet District and the students returned on a new schedule for the start/end times.

Third grader Jimmy Whitney said he was excited to be back at school. He waited for the bus with an umbrella and his parents, who said back-to-school shopping went smoothly for them.

For the Koenigs, shopping was a little more hectic since they were gone the week before on vacation.

Susan Koenig stood outside with her fourth-grade daughter Tracy and a black and gold umbrella.

"We probably didn't do as much (shopping) as she'd like," said Koenig. "We're still trying to to get out there. We've been away for the last week and now we're getting backpacks together, packing lunches, finding everything; we've been scrambling around this morning, but we made it."

Tracy said she was looking forward to seeing her friends.

"I'm just excited to learn," she said. "It's my second year (at Highview Elementary)."

"She's excited to see who's in her class and meet her new teacher," said Susan Koenig. "She's been on the Highview bus before. Now she gets to sit at the back."

"Third grade sits in the front and fourth grade sits in the back," said Tracy.

Parents reported some problems and glitches with the bus pick ups this morning and at Nanuet High School, there some minor mix ups with home room and locker numbers. Administration straightened things out quickly and all schools reported a very good first day.
