Local HS Advanced Chorus Invited to NYSSMA

They will be performing at the Rochester Convention Center on Dec. 1

The Nyack High School Advanced Chorus is a diverse group of 16 auditioned vocalists. Under the direction of Drucilla Pluhowski—Vocal Director at Nyack High School, these highly motivated and responsible young musicians travel and perform as ambassadors for their school and community.

They have been invited to perform at the NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) Winter Conference on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Rochester Convention Center. Participation in top music festivals consistently yields them the highest honors, not only for performance, but also for citizenship.

“To be invited is a great honor,” said Pluhowski. “Ensembles are chosen by audition, and this year, Nyack is one of only three vocal ensembles selected from throughout New York State.”

If you'd like to hear this award-winning group, the Advanced Chorus will be performing at "Readings in the Holiday Spirit," at Nyack Center on Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.

“You may also see and hear them caroling in Nyack this holiday season,” said Pluhowski. “This past Veteran's Day, they gave a benefit concert for Soup Angels, raising much needed funds for Nyack's Soup Kitchen.

They have also performed at benefit performances for People To People and Soup Angels of Rockland.

They have been honored to work with vocal jazz luminaries Darmon Meader of New York Voices, Roger Treece of Bobby McFerrin’s Voicestra and Dr. Steve Zegree, Director of Vocal Jazz at Western Michigan University.  They have performed with Tom Chapin, Eileen Ivers, Vaneese Thomas and Nine Men’s Morris.

This is just ridiculous. There are two aspects to our water. Supply and demand. United WaterRead More control our supply and have been instructed by the NY Public Service Commission to increase our supply. Our politicians control our demand. They could enact legislation to restrict demand tomorrow: Introduce water saving measures, restrict growth and introduce incentives and policies to conserve, but do they? No, of course not, they would rather showboat and slam UW, who are doing what the State has mandated. If our local politicians are serious on this issue, propose real legislation and water conservation measure, not just baseless rebuke of UW.
