Tomorrow: Nanuet Schools' All Things Stringed!

6th Annual Nanuet Stringfest Concert Returning to Nanuet High School

Mozart, Bach and a few others will want to rise up to catch the Stringfest Concert coming this Wednesday, March 30. Nanuet High School is hosting a total of 140 students throughout grades 5 – 12, and all of them share a passion for playing instruments in the Strings family.

This year is the Sixth Annual Stringfest Concert, and they’re going to be playing modern music.

“This year we are all playing ‘Pops’ music, ranging from classic jazz and Fourth of July-style pops pieces to film scores, Jimi Hendrix and Lady Gaga," said Katherine Rife, string teacher and orchestra conductor for the Nanuet schools. "Some of the string students who play guitar and electric basses and violins will play those instruments as well as the piano.”

Accompanied by this strings band will be Senior Eve Quinn, double bass soloist. Rife has also been promoting a great idea, “All Things Stringed!” allowing all instruments that have strings, including electric basses, violins and some acoustic and electric guitars to play with the classical stringed instruments: the viola, violin, cello and double bass. It is a classical orchestra fused with more modern strings, bringing forth a sound that is sure to take your breath away. There will also be refreshments after the concert.

However, the 5th graders aren’t the youngest string players who will be there. There will be 3rd and 4th grade string players who are attending as honored guests of the Stringfest group. With a total of 140 string players and an estimated 90 people attending the concert, the Nanuet High School Auditorium may end up being standing room only.

The Stringfest orchestra will be conducted by three teachers: Alex Fung, Elaine Royal and Rife. With an agenda as widely spread as pop music, jazz, as well as Jimi Hendrix and Lady Gaga, this Stringfest can very well be the best one yet. So don’t miss it! It’s starts at 7:30 pm.
