Colleen Power scored with two seconds remaining to give Albertus Magnus the victory and Tappan Zee its first defeat of the season.

The Tappan Zee girls basketball team brought a perfect record into Friday's game at Albertus Magnus.

The Dutchmen lost for the firs time this season when Albertus Magnus' Colleen Power made a shot with less than two seconds to give the Falcons a 52-51 win over Tappan Zee.

"When I made it, I was so happy and knew we were going to win," said Power. "I had a lot of adrenaline."

“There were a lot of situations in that game, up one, down one. One thing that we do a lot in practice is understanding situations, where you’re at, where the ball needs to go and when we need to get a stop,” said Albertus Head Coach Pat Buckley. “We scored when we needed to. Sometimes it’s who has the ball last wins.”

Albertus Magnus (10-3) avenged a loss earlier this season at Tappan Zee (13-1).

“I thought it was a very competitive game. Both teams were going after (the ball),” said Tappan Zee Coach Tom Cromer. “It was a great team effort, but Albertus made just one more play than we did today.”

Things stayed close the entire game and in the third quarter and most of the fourth, when Tappan Zee was behind about five points. Both teams were going to the hoop and Tappan Zee got sent to the free throw line a few times in the last quarter.

Tappan Zee closed the gap to two points, then with 1:45 left on the clock, Regina Argenzio hit a three-point shot to give the Dutchmen a 49-48 lead.

The lead changed hands twice to set up the final scorinig play. Albertus forward Maeve Parahus hit a two pointer with less than 40 seconds, then Tappan Zee center Val DiMuro responded with her own seconds later putting the Dutchmen back ahead 51-50.

That simply set up Power's big shot to end it.

“They have a great team, but this means a lot for our team in terms of confidence,” said Buckley. “This was a nice win.”

"I knew it was going to be a good game," said Power. "They came in undefeated. This will definitely give us confidence moving on."
