Junior Alaina Walker of Pomona continues to play an integral role in helping the high-riding women’s basketball team at St. Bonaventure University.

The Brown and White are off to a program-best 18-2 start and is the lone undefeated team in the A-10 at 5-0. The Bonnies have won seven straight games, and their 8-0 road record is the best in the nation.

Walker, perhaps the team’s finest defensive player, usually draws the opposition’s biggest offensive threat. But the Albertus Magnus alumna is not merely a defensive genius; she is also averaging eight points per game, with second-best totals in steals (18), blocked shots (eight) and assists (32).

Walker and the Bonnies return home to the Reilly Center to host Saint Joseph’s on Wednesday at 7 p.m. on Bob Lanier Court.

The Hawks (13-5 overall, 3-1 A-10) were picked to finish fifth in the league in preseason voting.

Chargers Philadelphia-bound

The men’s and women’s basketball teams at Dominican College in Orangeburg will be in Philadelphia tonight to meet their counterparts from Chestnut Hill College.

Coach Joe Clinton’s men’s team (9-6) is scheduled at 7 p.m., following the 5 p.m. game featuring Coach Bill Diener’s women’s team (7-6).

The non-conference women’s game scheduled Jan. 23 at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry has been reset for Feb. 6 at 5:30 p.m.
