Suffern led all of Section 1 Division 1 with a record of 20-2-2 and they were the highest scoring team this year finding the back of the net 139 times.

The Mounties were also the best defensive team in the section as they only gave up 21 goals for the season in the team’s 24 games.

Lady Pirates Hope to Run Into Final Four

Pearl River will take on Red Hook tonight in the state’s elite eight at 5:30 p.m. The Pirates come into the matchup with the better record of 21-2 but the Section 9 Champions have run their way to a 15-6 record.

The senior tandem of Allison Cook and Christa Scognamiglio have set the pace for the Pearl River offense all season long, however it has been the Pirate defense that has been the story of late as the team has only given up 33 points in each of their last two games.

Pearl River will need to play top notch defense in transition if they want to stop Julianne Wilkinson, the top scorer for Red Hook. Wilkinson comes into the game averaging 18 points as the team’s primary scoring option.

Tonight’s winner will advance to the State final four next Friday.

Weekly Sports Poll:

This week’s poll deals with the New York Jets and quarterbacks Mark Sanchez and Peyton Manning. If you were sitting in General Manager Mike Tannenbaum’s chair would you make a hard push for the NFL’s only four-time MVP, would you ride out the turbulence with the Sanchize, or would you bring in Manning to mentor Sanchez in his fourth year in the league?
