Daily Sports Digest: Snow Covers Fields As Playoffs Begin

It wasn’t the most ideal playing conditions but several teams from Nanuet and Albertus Magnus opened up the playoffs over the weekend in the snow.

Both local football teams fell in low scoring games as Westlake beat Nanuet and the Falcons fell to Pawling. Nanuet’s field hockey team played well at Harrison but fell 1-0 in overtime.

Hen Hud proved to be too much for Nanuet’s volleyball team as the Sailors won in straight sets. Albertus Magnus cruised to victory beating Woodlands 3-0 on the court.

Three local teams saw snow fall on their soccer games as Nanuet’s girls were upset by Pelham, and the Falcon boys fell in two overtimes. The Albertus Magnus girls went into a third overtime before finally scoring a goal and winning their game 1-0.

Yesterday’s Results:

Sport: Volleyball

Game: Nanuet @ Hen Hud

Score:  Hen Hud Won 3-0

Highlights: Hen Hud picked up the victory in straight sets 25-10, 25-14, 25-14. Stephanie Gmeiner had 17 kills for the Sailors in the victory. I the loss Caitlin Lenihan had seven kills.

 

Sport: Football

Game: Westlake @ Nanuet

Score:  Westlake Won 13-0

Highlights: Nanuet fell at home as Westlake picked up two first half touchdowns from Danny Bassi.

 

Sport: Field Hockey

Game: Nanuet @ Harrison

Score: Harrison Won 1-0

Highlights: It took an extra period but two minutes into overtime Harrison’s Michelle Loguidice found the back of the net for the games only goal. In the win the Husky defense played well and Ali Menniti saved the only shot on goal. Stephanie Levy had 15 saves in the loss.

 

Sport: Girl’s Soccer

Game: Pelham @ Nanuet

Score:  Pelham Won 2-1

Highlights: Pelham hit the road and upset the higher seeded Nanuet Golden Knights in the snow. Cubby Stifvater picked up a first half goal and Samantha Wirght scored late in the game to take the victory. Nanuet’s lone goal came from Sarah Schucker and Melissa Richards had ten saves in the loss.

 

Sport: Boy’s Soccer

Game: Albertus Magnus @ Briarcliff

Score:  Briarcliff Won 2-1 (2OT)

Highlights: Albertus Magnus was able to tie up the game in the second half but eventually Briarcliff won it in double overtime. James Huber scored for the Falcons and Karl Jamiolkowski had eight saves in the loss.

 

Sport: Volleyball

Game: Woodlands @ Albertus Magnus

Score:  Albertus Magnus Won 3-0

Highlights: Albertus Magnus had no issue with Woodlands as the Falcons cruised to victory in straight sets. 25-13, 25-6, and 25-3. Albertus was led by Mallary McFadden who had 11 kills and an assist in the victory.

 

Sport: Football

Game: Pawling @ Albertus Magnus

Score:  Pawling Won 16-6

Highlights: Jeremy Sosa picked up the first Falcon points in the forth quarter on a three yard run, but Pawling was able to outlast Albertus as Pawling found two rushing touchdowns in the snow.

 

Sport: Girl’s Soccer

Game: Albertus Magnus @ Croton Harmon

Score:  Albertus Magnus Won 1-0 (3OT)

Highlights: It took three overtimes but finally Mikaela Connell was able to score off of a Marisa Blanco assist to get an upset victory on the road. Tar Condon had six saves on the road.
