Daily Sports Digest: Softball All-Stars Win Memorial Tournament

The ninth annual Kayser-Brady Memorial Tournament at the Anderson Field Complex in Orangeburg.

On the softball side, the Nanuet Little League all-star team won its second straight Alicia Brady Memorial Tournament thanks to a 6-4 win against Pearl River. Nanuet pitcher Katie Van Shaick struck out 11 batters in five innings and helped on offense with a two-run single. Meredith Lee also drove in two for Nanuet.

In the Billy Kayser Memorial Tournament, the West Nyack Little League baseball all-stars won for the first time since the inaugural tournament back in 2004. West Nyack took home the title with a 3-2 win against Suffern, which was also looking for a second consecutive tournament win. West Nyack scored its only runs in the first inning and pitcher Micah Tsuei was able to shut down Suffern in his five innings of work.

The West Nyack Little League 10-11 all-stars will play for the Section 4 title on Friday after in the semifinals on Wednesday.

Brewster scored one run in the second inning thanks to two errors on one play and held the 1-0 lead until the bottom of the fifth. West Nyack broke the game open with six runs thanks to a two-run double by Joey Solomon and RBI doubles from Luke Pallogudis and Wes Jacaruso. Chris Curran and Sam Franco also had hits in the rally.

Chris Dimick earned the win for West Nyack, giving up one unearned run on two hits over six innings.

West Nyack will play the winner of today’s game, weather permitting, between Brewster and Middletown.
