Harlem Ambassadors Brought Their 'A' Game For Laughs and Charity

The money raised goes toward the Nanuet Lions Scholarship funds

The Nanuet High School gym was packed full of people and laughter last Tuesday night when the Harlem Ambassadors came to town. The Nanuet Lions Club hosted a comical basketball game for their charities and scholarship fund. After recruiting community volunteer members to form the team the “Roaring Lions,” it was game on for a good cause.

“It was very fun. The pre-game show was amazing and I’d like to thank my sponsors for putting this together,” said Barbara Chuck, President of the Nanuet Lions club.

“I’m honored the lions trusted us to join up with them in this fundraiser,” said Lade Majic, a Harlem Ambassador player “I leaned my basketball skills in New Jersey and New York. You grow up with a lot of obstacles and adversity and you don’t understand it all when you’re young, but now that I’m older, I know that I have a calling to help others.”

“It’s been fun. Typical Lions working hard and raising money for charity,” said Michael Bryceland, Lions District Governor, who played on the Roaring Lions. “I’m in over my head, but it’s interesting.”

“It was great representing the girl scouts for this great cause,” said Priscilla Drobes, Nanuet Troop Leader. “It was a great experience and a lot of running around. We got our butts kicked, but the Harlem Ambassadors put on a great show.”

Quite a few of the Roaring Lions were from the Rockland County Haiti Relief Campaign, which the Nanuet Lions supports.

“This is wonderful. This is my first time playing basketball,” said Renold Julien, Chairman of the Rockland County Haiti Relief Campaign and player for the Roaring Lions. “I hope to get the opportunity to play more basketball in the future. “

The game was sponsored by a few elected officials such as Senator David Carlucci and was visited by others such as Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack and Councilman Frank Borelli.

“It was fun to watch the volunteers who played in the game and come out to help such a great cause,” said Borelli. “The community support for this event was fantastic. They had a great time and enjoyed a great game of basketball.”
