Join Locals in Walk-A-Thon For Albertus' Jimmy Place

There has been several fundraisers for Jimmy Place since he passed away in July 2011. So far for 2012, they have raised about $11,500

Last year, on May 22, Jimmy Place joined his mother Alison in organizing and walking in . However, two months and one day later, Jimmy Place passed away on July 23, 2011.

The 15-year-old Albertus Magnus HS Student from Pomona was diagnosed at 2 months old with a deadly disease called Cystic Fibrosis.

"Jimmy fought his whole life to not let Cystic Fibrosis beat him," said his mother Alison. "He never gave up hope that a cure for this disease would be found.  Unfortunately for Jimmy, a cure did not come in time for him. However there are many young adults and children still fighting the same battle Jimmy did.  A cure needs to be found so that no one else or their family has to endure the suffering Jimmy experienced and the pain the Place family endures everyday without him."

Alison Place—along with family members Dave, Melissa and Jesse—are organizing the 3rd Annual Cystic Fibrosis Walk-a-Thon in Jimmy's memory on Sunday, June 3 at .

Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the walk starting at 10 a.m.  Music at the event will be provided by 92.3 NOW.  Bagels will be served before the walk and hamburgers and hotdogs served after the walk.

There is no cost to register. To sign up to walk, go to Alison Place's website at Great Strides: Taking Steps to Cure Cystic Fibrosis and try to get as many sponsors as you can.

There have been other fundraisers since Place passed away.

This past April, Head Golf Coach John DeJulia used to coach Place and started a fundraiser called All varsity golf students in Rockland County are encouraged to compete. Once registered, students need to find pledges for each birdie they make throughout the golf season.

Also this past April at the Albertus Magnus HS's annual Dinner/Auction, there was a surprise dedication. The name of the front driveway at Albertus will now be named "Jimmy Place." The auctioneer asked who would like to donate $100 to name it in his honor, and it seemed the whole room raised their paddles to join in.

Last year in August, there was a on at the Rockland Boulders home game at Provident Park.

"The more money raised, the faster CF can stand for Cure Found," she said.

Correction: Dave was excluded from an earlier version of this article as one of the family organizers

Called "STRIKEOUT CYSTIC FIBROSIS" the Albertus Magnus baseball team is also raising money for CF. The players will be walking on June 3rd and are taking donations for each strikeout by our pitchers. For updates on the amount raised, check magnusathletics.com. Email KCF@magnusathletics.com with your name and pledge per strikeout.

An issues conference will be a wast of time and money. So many ' issues ' have been pulled out ofRead More thin air. The people who organized against the plant will just keep saying the same thing. No amount of info will be enough, no answer will be accepted. The issues conference will be a circus of endless questions, ideas, and demands. Haverstraw bay reclassified as drinking water will better protect it, provide an endless supply of water and finally help end the stereotype of the Hudson being polluted Recommend

UW is by far the cheapest utility we have delivering clean water to my family for over 35 years. IRead More can live without cable which costs $160 a month but not without water at about $50 a month. Thank you Mr. Pointing.

Mr. Pointing, I appreciate your clearing this matter up. Too often the Water Company s cast as theRead More Villian by the Press and it is best to nip it in the bud with true facts.

I see your point isnt so much about what they are spending it on, but the process that they followedRead More to get to this point, but are they getting generators for the street lights on main street or the traffic signals? Seems like a project that is way out of control, who has gone to these community centers during storms anyway. All I have ever read about was people charging cell phones at the community centers. Good Job Pat.
