Nanuet 10-11U Softball All Stars Win State Championship

The Nanuet 10-11U All Stars softball team won the New York State Championship on Sunday. The team clinched its victory with a defeat of East Meadow 13-1 in the fourth inning when the mercy rule was applied with Nanuet being the home team. The Nanuet All Star went undefeated through the district, section and state championships.

Team Parent Renee Bucci shared in an email what happened on Sunday afternoon.

“When we got up there for warm ups it began to rain but that did not damper the girls’ excitement. At 12:55 p.m., the girls gathered behind the third base dugout and sang "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer," this has been a tradition that has held up from game one. By 1 p.m., game time the sun began to shine and the humidity to kick in.

East Meadow was hitting in the first inning, scoring one run but that did not rattle Nanuet. We closed them out of the inning with a third base double play and that was the only chance East Meadow had to score!  Our bats were alive and our defense solid.  Each girl on the team contributed to the game and truly behaved and supported each other as a team!”

Bucci said the manager and coaches dedicated a tremendous amount of time to the team and deserve as much recognition as the players. She said they held three, three-hour practices a week and worked on the girls’ skills, mindset, and softball IQ in addition to hosting pasta parties and trips to get ice cream.

“This team is very special in my eyes, they really came together on the field and off,” wrote Bucci. “They made each game exciting for their fans and took each win with humility and grace.  They truly earned the title New York State Champions and they will wear that title proudly for Nanuet!”
