Nanuet Girls Soccer Beats Albertus in Kicks for a Cure Breast Cancer Game

The Knights left with a 2-1 victory. $1,200 was raised

The Albertus Magnus High School Girls Soccer hosted the Nanuet Knights for a special breast cancer awareness and fundraiser game on Saturday, Oct. 15. Although they lost their home game, it was a 'win' nonetheless because this Kicks for a Cure game benefitted the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.

The Knights left with a win of 2-1 with Sara Schucker scoring both of Nanuet's goals in the second half. Albertus' Kerry Mulcahy scored in the second half with an assist from Kaitlyn McNamara.

Captains Lauren Gruffi and Casey Silvestri organized this special event. All donations

"This is our first year doing this," said Silvestri. "This was actually Lauren and the other girls' idea and we all came together to put this together because so many of our moms and aunts and grandparents had been affected by this."

"We're hoping to carry this on for next year," said Gruffi.

"Several of the girls on the Albertus team have been directly impacted by a breast cancer diagnosis with a family member," said Kim Gruffi, team mom.
