Nanuet Spring Track & Field Looks To Build On Last Season
The Golden Knights kicked off their spring season on Saturday
The Nanuet track and field team finished second in last year’s Class B section championship, and Head Coach Larry Beckerle knows it’ll be a difficult season to replicate.
“We had a really good team last year, but lost a few kids,” he said. “Hopefully this year we can compete with last year’s team.”
The Golden Knights kicked off their spring season Saturday at Clarkstown North, where they competed in the Ram Relays. The top performer for Nanuet was Tom Flannery.
Flannery won the 110 meter hurdles and finished second in the 300 hurdles. Beckerle is expecting a big season from Flannery.
“Tom’s our all-around man,” Beckerle said. “He was a pentathlete, competing in five events for us, so he’s well-rounded and can compete in a number of different events.”
Outside of Flannery, Beckerle said some other Knights he’s looking for big seasons out of include Kyle Chesterman, who finished second in the 1,600 meters on Saturday, and Charles Miller. He also said Shawn Celestin performed well in the high jump.
On the girls side, the Knights' best finish came in the pole vault, where Erica Doran finished second. The girls 3,200 meter relay team finished third at the Ram Relays.
Girls Head Coach Gary Brissing said a few girls on the team he’s looking for big seasons out of include MaryKate O'Meara, Lauren Fernandez and Alexis Carey, who Brissing said is coming off a good winter indoor season.
