Nanuet Track Club Competes Against Suffern

Their next meet is 6 p.m. on July 7 at Nanuet High School

School's out, but that doesn't mean everything comes to a stop. The Nanuet Track Club keeps busy during the summer with track meets. They had their first meet against Suffern on Tuesday, July 5 at Suffern Middle School. The results are attached to the article.

"Over the summer I run a program called the Nanuet Track Club," said Nanuet Track Coach Sheri Dempsey. "It is in its 15th year." 

This is an introductory program to Track and Field for Nanuet students grades 2 through 9. This is an individual sport with team competitions. Students learn these skills:

  • Hurdling
  • Long Jump
  • High Jump
  • Throwing the Shot Put

Some come to find a new passion and others want to stay in shape for the next season. The Summer Twilight Series will be held on Tuesday nights at Suffern Middle School and Thursday nights at Nanuet High School beginning on July 13 at 6 p.m. Events include Jumping, Throwing and Running.

No experience necessary, all abilities are welcome. All you need is a desire to improve. Late registrants are welcomed with an additional fee. The Head Coach and organizer of the Nanuet Track Club is Sheri Dempsey.

Here are the upcoming meets—All meets begin at 6 p.m.:

  • Thursday, July 7 at Nanuet High School
  • Tuesday, July 12 at Suffern Middle School
  • Thursday, July 14 at Nanuet High School
  • Tuesday, July 19 at Suffern Middle School
  • Thursday, July 21 Rain Date at Nanuet High School

Here are the meet schedules:

Tuesday Thursday 100 meters – a straight away 200 meters – a half a lap Mile – 4 laps

800 meters – 2 laps

300 meters – ¾ of a lap 400 meters – 1 lap Long Jump Relay – 4 athletes to a relay Discus – 5th grade and up Triple Jump – 5th grade and up High Jump – 5th grade and up   
Shot Put

A child can compete in a up to three events in each meet. This does not include the relay.
