New Jersey Youth Baseball State Champs Reside Right Here in Clarkstown

The Clarkstown Stars won the New Jersey Youth Baseball State Championships and qualified for a prestigious East coast tournament in Delaware.

The Clarkstown Stars baseball organization is a highly competitive youth baseball team run out of Clarkstown. Despite their success the team has gone relatively unnoticed. Not anymore.

The Clarkstown Stars 10U team (10 and under) won a tournament that made the New Jersey Youth Baseball State Champions. Since the nearest competitive youth baseball league to Clarkstown is in New Jersey, the Stars readily accepted the invitation to compete in New Jersey tournaments and leagues.

Upon winning the State Championship the Stars were birthed into prominent east coast tournament held in Rehoboth Beach, DE. The Sports at the Beach tournament starts Saturday, September 18 and gives the stars a final chance to flex their competitive muscles before the end of the season.

"We are playing teams from all over the place - Delaware, Virginia, Maryland, and we don't have our full team going into the fall, but we should be competitive and based on this team's history I fully expect to be competitive," said Head Coach Matt Rivera.

The 10U Stars held their final practice at Kings Park in Congers on Wednesday, Sept. 15. Rivera closed practice with a speech reminding his young talent the importance of the fundamentals of baseball.

"Play good defensive baseball, that means catching every ball, making good throws and backing each other up. Remember, if you're standing around doing nothing you're doing something wrong."

With members from West Nyack, Nanuet, New City, Congers and more, the Clarkstown Stars look to make us proud in Delaware this weekend.

The Clarkstown Stars have teams ranging from ages 7 to 12 and plans to continue to field competitive teams going into next season. Tryouts start Sept. 25 and more information can be found on the teams website.
