Meals on Wheels Receives Subaru “Share the Love” Grant
Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland is proud to announce it is the recipient of a $2,500 grant for the agency’s participation in the Meals On Wheels Association of America’s participation in the national Subaru of America, Inc. “Share the Love” Campaign, designed for Subaru dealers to give back to their local communities. The campaign ran from November 21, 2013 through January 2, 2014, and Subaru donated $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased during “Share the Love” to the customer's choice of charity, including Meals On Wheels.
“Nearly 1 in 6 seniors may not know where their next meal is coming from, but fortunately programs like Meals on Wheels are working to end senior hunger, and grants such as the Subaru Share the Love Grant are an integral part of our agency’s effort to provide nutritious meals to Rockland homebound seniors in need,” according to Barbara Kohlhausen, agency CEO.
As part of the local effort Meals on Wheels partnered with Nice-Pak/PDI Family of Companies by holding a “stuff the trunk” event on held Friday, December 20th at the Nice-Pak/PDI company’s annual Turkey Bowl holiday gathering. Nice-Pak/PDI associates prepared and donated close to 70 “blizzard bags” of non-perishable foods for homebound individuals. The blizzard bags were used for Meals on Wheels’ emergency shelf-stable food program that helps ensure homebound recipients have a sufficient supply of non-perishable food items in case of a weather related or other type of emergency. The blizzard bags were placed in the trunks of two Subaru vehicles parked out front of Nice-Pak/PDI as part of Meals on Wheels’ “stuff the trunk” event, which is part of the larger Subaru Share the Love Campaign.
