LIU Hudson at Rockland inducts eleven students into the Counseling Honor Society

Long Island University (LIU) Hudson Graduate Center in Rockland inducted eleven students into their Counseling Honor Society.  They are Shanna Delucein (Garnerville), Kristen Kiggins (Pearl River), Myriam Lecorps (Sping Valley), Lindsay March (New City), John Mortsakis ( West Nyack) , Alexandra Tomson (Circleville) , Patricia Villani (Briar Cliff Manor) and Honor Society Officers: Jackie Rizzo (Monroe), Gina Lovitch (Old Tappan, NJ), Hillary Rosen (New City) , and, Julia Quattrocchi (New City).

These students have not only maintained a 3.5 or higher cumulative average but have demonstrated excellence in leadership and compassion throughout the neighboring communities. The Honorees are recognized for achieving high academics accomplishments in preparation for entering the profession of counseling.  The Society’s mission is to advocate for those less fortunate and to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership in counseling, and volunteerism.

The Honor Society has worked closely with community organizations including People to People, the Salvation Army, Relay for Life, and other groups. They have participated in and orchestrated many fundraisers that included bake sales, a prom dress drive, food drives, and the angel tree/toy drive.  The Society has hosted many  public education presentations on topics such as Human Trafficking, School Violence, Bullying, and Asperger's Syndrome.

The incoming Honor Society Officers for the upcoming 2014 – 2015 academic Year include Masha Arius (Spring Valley), Brittney Mangieri (Highland Mills), and Rebecca Schonberg (Central Valley).

Students can join the Counseling Honor Society if they have completed 12 credits in the School or Mental Health Counseling program and have a 3.5 or higher cumulative average at LIU. They also need a letter of recommendation from an LIU counseling professor and must submit a personal statement about why they want to join.
